Cheshire Swan Study Group Ringing November 2018

In November the Cheshire Swan Study Group ringed a total of 30 Swans. These comprised of 25 cygnets, 1 third year and 4 adults. There were 2 controls.

 

The Highest Site Counts were as follows:-

Acre Dell Pools near Congleton = 73 on 25th.

Comber Mere near Whitchurch = 64 on 11th.

Coole Pilate Canal near Nantwich = 6 on 22nd.

Doddington Mere near Nantwich = 54 on 15th.

Lowest Night Temperature = – 3.7 Degrees Centigrade = 22nd.

Highest Day Temperature = 14.8 Degrees Centigrade = 28th.

Arclid SQ,Sandbach = Black headed Gull = 100, Coot = 26, Gadwall = 2, Goosander = 1, Lesser Black-backed Gulls = 53, Mallard = 143, Pochard = 1 and Tufted Duck = 56.

Burleydam Pool near, Whitchurch = Black headed Gull = 30, Lesser Black-backed Gull = 185, Teal = 12 and Wigeon = 144.

Comber Mere near Whitchurch = Coot = 17, Cormorants = 10, Greylag Geese = 68 and Mute Swans = 64.

Queens Park Lake, Crewe = Black headed Gull = 67, Canada Geese = 61, Goosander = 19 and Mallard = 84.

During October the Cheshire Swan Study Group ringed a total of 25 swans. These consisted of 10 cygnets, 2 second years and 13 adults. There was one retrap.

Highest Site Counts during October were as follows:-

Acre Dell Pool, Congleton = 74 on 14th.

Comber Mere near Whitchurch = 83 on 29th.

Doddington Mere near Nantwich = 51 on 25th.

Canal in Middlewich = 31 on 31st.

Hurleston Reservoir, Nantwich = Canada Geese = 345, Mallard = 25 and Tufted Duck = 13.

Nantwich Boating Lake = Black headed Gull = 41 and Mallard = 120.

Wollfall pool near Audlem = Canada Geese = 310, Greylag Geese = 24 and Mallard = 75.

During September the Cheshire Swan Study Group ringed a total of 18 Mute Swans. These consisted of 13 Cygnets, 2 Second years, 1 Third year and 2 Adults. There was one Retrap.

The Highest Site counts for September were as follows:-

Acre Dell Pools near Congleton = 66 on 9th.

Bottom Flash, Winsford = 4 on 22nd.

Comber Mere near Whitchurch = 42 on 24th.

Doddington Mere near Nantwich = 46 on 27th.

Canal, Middlewich = 16 on 28th.
